Port Partner Biox Corporation is one of Canada’s largest biodiesel producers. With an
optimistic outlook for the renewable fuels sector, Biox has been positioning itself to meet
new demand for the environmentally-friendly fuel.
The Government of Ontario is investigating the implementation of a 2% biodiesel
mandate, which would boost demand from producers based in the province. With this
potential change on the horizon, Biox has been making several changes to allow it to
increase production capacity and reach its customers quickly and easily.
The company has recently consolidated its staff from another GTA location to an expanded
office at its manufacturing facility at the Port.
Biox’s Port location offers a solid logistics advantage, putting the company in easy reach
of its suppliers and customers, by road, rail and pipeline. In August 2013, Biox’s facility
was connected via direct pipeline to one of its biggest customers, the nearby Shell Canada
blending facility.
Biodiesel is a clean-burning renewable fuel made from vegetable oil or animal fats. It
can be used in all diesel vehicles, providing equivalent power to conventional diesel fuel,
while reducing CO2 emissions and greenhouse gases by up to 99 per cent.
Within the next few years, Biox aims to significantly increase production and gallons
under management.
